My No option moments….part 2
While in Capetown last year , my friends and I decided to go visit the museum where the world’s first successful heart transplant was done at Groote Schuur hospital and there after decided to go visit the university of Capetown to make afew connections and contact before heading back to Uganda.
When we were done, at about 5:30pm, it was time to go back to the hotel which was about 5km away. We had been using Ubers the whole time, and here we were, the 3 of us with fully functioning phones, but none had internet. We had been so reluctant buying S.A simcards because we had a short time here….just a week, and besides there was WiFi at the hotel where we stayed, and at the International convention centre where the conference had been happening. So…here we were, stuck…..no internet connection, yet we needed an Uber. We honestly didn’t think about using the campus WiFi., so we just walked to the main road and just looked at each other 😂😂😂.
I on the other hand had to come up with a ‘bold’ “very Ugandan” thing.
I walked to a guy, a young man who looked to be in his late 20s, who was close by …..he wasn’t even a student, he had come to drop off stuff for his sister at the university…..this I gathered from our very brief conversation later.
I introduced myself…..with a wide smile😊, and told this guy about my (our) situation. He gave me the confused look ooofffffff………..how is that my concern???
I smiled again, and said. Could you please hotspot my phone 😂😂😂😂 , I want to order for an Uber.
He seemed hesitant or rather confused by the boldness. But he still hostpotted my phone, I made the order and once our ride….a Chevrolet was within an eyes sight, we said our goodbyes, with a thank you ofcourse.
Todays lesson; always smile, and never accept to be stuck in Any situation……there are always options around
