This generation will never know “our” kind of Christmas
By “our” , I mean everyone aged 20 and above today.
Growing up, Christmas meant so much to everyone. The young, the old, the guy at the butcher, the lady who owns a boutique, grandparents, the village church leaders, the taxi and bus driver, the president, the pagan and I bet to the Muslims too.
The little things that brought life into that time of the year…..a dress….Thee dress…. With matching body socks, a little handbag, a little hat, and those beautiful little white shoes……yes, they had to be white😂. I can only speak for the girls here🙈🙈😂😂😂.
The village church…..very decorated with natural Christmas trees, with tissue😂😂…yes tissue hanging all around, and fresh banana leaves hanging from the windows of the church, balloons, with the most smiley choir members,
I remember the road to church being cleaner on this day, swept thoroughly to almost expose the gravel😂😂😂😂. Church service was always longer on this day, ending around 2pm, before we could return home to feasting.
Then grandparents went ahead to tell stories, riddles, dancing for us….it was the get together every family always looked toward to.
Well today, a lot has changed, the roads leading to villages are no longer as crowded, there is too much crime going on today, homes are no longer as open to the general public as before.
It meant much more than just driving to the village and checking on everyone, eating a lot……more than our bodies can handle. It meant love, sharing, having 30 plus relatives around , doing the goat or bull roast and actually meaning it.
All in all, Christ is Born. Even if we can’t celebrate Christmas as before, we got to celebrate Christ in our hearts and lives.
MERRY CHRISTMAS AND HAPPY NEW YEAR
