DEAR WOMAN, HAPPY WOMEN’S DAY๐
Declaimer; this isn’t one of those Men are trash posts.
This post is meant to celebrate and encourage a woman. The African woman for example has travelled a great and long journey. The women of my generation probably have a faint idea of this journey, but the women of our Mothers’ generation have lived to tell this story. A story of complete transformation. From hiding to shinning, from being shunned to being respected and consulted in a community.
Till today, my grandmother can’t eat chicken and eggs because growing up, she was told a woman should not eat chicken….it was meant for the men. My guess is that one day, as part of the transformation process one woman ate chicken and she didn’t die, then she ate eggs and she didn’t die, and she repeated these two and she didn’t die. Then she told other women about it, and today women eat chicken probably even much more than men. It took bravely, it took the desire to explore and know what taste lay beyond preparing this meal and serving it to the men in the house.
But where is the gap? Why have we failed to exceedingly crash and conquer several other barriers today? Is it because we think we can’t? Or just because society says a woman just can’t?
I know a male doctor who says his wife must keep home, keep the family and wait for him to return from work. He believes his wife has no role in contributing fancially, decision making and contributing to the growth of his family.
You must have heard people talk about the 3 women who will never be in a successful marriage. They say a very beautiful woman, a very successful woman and a very brainy woman. You my dear woman reading this are probably all these 3 women in 1. And you shouldn’t apologise for it, or shrink yourself too low to fit to society’s standard of a woman
I have always wondered , if a woman’s place is in the kitchen, why then don’t we bring up girls in housekeeping schools where all they are taught is to cook, wash, mop and dig.
Would you shrink your daughter’s abilities to less than she can be just for her to fit in a mediocre society or get to have a husband? For every man who despises a woman, they want their own daughter to be the greatest they can Be.
A lot can be changed about how a woman is looked at today. And it takes us to fight for ourselves to be just what we want to be.
Men like to see a beautiful and smart woman, very independent walking the streets of this earth. But they don’t want her to stand up to her rights and dignity. When she does, then she’s disrespectful, and the question is always the same.. Who will marry her?
4 Years ago a certain woman asked my mother about my sister and I ( her a physiotherapist and me a doctor). My mother said we were fine and going about school fine. This woman then said well, I hope it doesn’t get challenging for them to find husbands in future.
This was a fellow woman judging our future basing on our ability to take on certain things in life she felt should have been done by only men.
As women, we need each other, we need to build each other , we need to grow together, and once this becomes an everyday thing, then nobody will look at us as minors. And soon we can contribute equally to our families. Financially, emotionally, socially, and we will make this world a better place to trade.
A surgeon I admire so much mentioned something that kept ringing in my head all day. He said, If you light a lamp and put it under a bowl, nobody will see it. This should also been followed by Never dim your light to be accepted by anyone.
We have to be the very best of what we can be. This world MUST adjust.
