My first job interview

PS; I got the job.

Guys, why didn’t someone warn me about the adrenaline rush this thing brings. For starters, I had hit 45 applications. Both online and physical applications in 30 days. I got the first phonecall on day 32 after internship. I was to have my first interview on a Tuesday 8am, In a town different from where I stay, so I travelled a day prior.

It’s one thing to know what questions are usually asked in interviews- I mean we have all googled them before, but it’s another knowing how to answer them in a way that your next employer will find it palatable hence deciding to employ you. The interview days were split into 2 because we were many. Almost 13 doctors.

The night before the interview, I made calls to friends who had been through this and they guided me. I then went ahead to give myself these pep talks and talk to a tall bottle of soda. It kinda helped I must say. Went to bed at 11pm, didn’t sleep till some minutes past midnight, but lost sleep somewhere around 4am. I must have been very nervous. Started preparing at 6am, couldn’t have breakfast because I wasn’t calm enough. I arrived at the hospital by 7:15am. I was the first to arrive . Then many others followed .

Around 8:50am, I was called in. Panel of 5 determined panelists ready to pick their next employees. The questions were many and rather diverse, but the environment was friendly. I liked it.

When I went for another interview days after this one, I was very calm and it sailed smoothly. I didn’t even prepare, neither did I lose sleep like the first time.

You surely need to be coached before your interview, and please know every word for word that’s written in your CV. There have been victims. People get colleagues or even pay people to write their CVs and they give them credentials and qualifications they don’t even have . If you must get the job, then defend the experience you wrote in your CV. Whether true or not😅.
