Memoir of an intern doctor…day 130

Internship is such a rollercoaster. Its highs and lows are of two extremes wide apart.
I’ll tell you about some Haha moments everyday as I remember them.
My first day of internship, 1st October, I did night call with a very supportive medical officer. Of the many blunders I might have done that night,๐๐, I clearly remember one.
Mother comes in as a referral, I don’t remember what the referral reason was. MO tells me to go examine. I swab the perineum nicely, only to see a very black foot at the vulva( probably the darkest I’ve ever seen). It was stuck out and there wasn’t any other thing. Not even draining liquor. ๐๐๐๐ the fetus’ limb was gangrenous. I know its not funny, but you should have seen my face.
My head and all the medicine I knew stopped there at that moment. I didn’t ask the mother any questions. I hadn’t even taken history or even looked at the referral form. I immediately took off my gloves, walked to the medical officer and in my own words stated I have seen a black foot.
He asked me what j meant and I stated I have seen a very black foot of a baby peeping ๐๐๐๐๐.
He asked about the reason for referral, my obstetric exam findings, and I just looked at him๐.
I literally freaked out and that’s the only thing that kept on my mind the whole night. Don’t ask me what happened to the mother because I didn’t even follow up. I got traumatised like that.
