Why COVID-19 will probably be here longer than anticipated.

COVID started in the elite society, has killed more of people in the elite community, is being spread most by people in the elite community, and will probably be here longer because of the elite…just because we DONT LISTEN!

My Country, Uganda happens to be in its 3rd week of the lockdown. “Essential workers” have been provided with car stickers to enable them get to work daily. Should be a good thing right? The challenge is that the mantle to decide who is essential has been left to almost (read almost again) the non essential people in this country and probably some essential people have missed out on this.

1. The stickers( which are free ) have been sold to some non essential workers just because they can afford to pay a hefty price and somehow be out of their homes….anytime, any day. How is it possible we’re having traffic jam during a lockdown!!!! How do you explain that?

2. Some essential workers….I’ll speak for health workers, still haven’t started working because they can’t access these stickers.

3. Sons and daughters of government workers are driving around in government cars….aimlessly even outside curfew time!!!!!!!.

4. Some people have come up with fake car stickers, others have come up with duplication and faking of government car number plates.

5. Suddenly every one wants to exercise. And they want to do it outdoors. Some roads without cars had started to look like market places…very crowded with people jogging. Thank God public jogging was banned.

All these; numbers 1 to 5 and probably more that I didn’t mention here are being done by the elite group. They are increasing mixing up, soon they’ll drive to villages to check on relatives and who knows, they’ll take the virus to them. The village people can’t afford to make it to a proper hospital in time when they start showing symptoms. Plus, our district hospitals are not ready!

Fortunately for them, most of these people, the elites can access good healthcare for themselves….I wonder if that’s why they go about the careless living, but hey!!!! they aren’t going down alone, no! They are going about infecting the unfortunate in market places, supermarket workers, at the petrol station, their workers….yes, all of them. And the cycle continues.

The people we call the “non-elite” are home, they don’t even speak to neighbours, they #StayHome and they’re tryna keep alive even when some may not be understanding what’s going on.

We may be the most informed about this, but we’re clearly making the biggest mistakes. Let’s stay home …atleast for our own safety
