Satisfy your addiction to fight it
My love for bread is from way back when I was a little girl. I used to eat bread at breakfast , evening tea, and I would sometimes forego supper and end up eating bread and beans for supper. Not even after eating bread so much did my love for bread ever go.
This one holiday we had gone to my grand parents’ and of course among the things we carried , bread was included – as always. When my hunger pangs started demanding , I slowly sneaked into the kitchen and started ‘ stealing ‘ this bread. Clearly this was stealing because am not even sure I was hungry. As I was eating this stolen bread ,my small brother and my two other cousins saw me. For them to keep quiet , I had to buy their silence by stealing more bread to give to them.
Time for evening tea approached and I hear grandma scream from the kitchen ” enju egi harimu embeba??” Runyankole words to mean ” are there rats in this house??” Of course at the end of it all, we were all called and the coward in me ended up telling the truth.
I was made to sit down and given an entire loaf of bread and a jug of water . yes, water-not juice. This was punishment enough , and I was supposed to eat everything. I remember eating till I couldn’t think , and i hated bread there after . I didn’t want to even see bread in a shop .Of course the next day I was so angry and wanted to go back home.
My lesson from this is what I use to get away with my everyday addiction .
If there is anything you ever feel like is becoming hard to let go of , just give yourself a lot of it and before you know it , it will not be a problem anyone.
The same can be done to attack and conquer our Fears in life. According to the Behavior therapy , a person can conquer their fear for anything by directly confronting and attacking their fear until they desensitize the fear- reaction by exhausting its response.
If you increasingly do the things you fear , your fear will be eliminated. For example people who stammer , if you try to speak as often as possible , this problem- fear to stammer can be eliminated.
