Memoir of an intern doctor…..day 221. Acholi language not Acholi yet

My Acholi language is not close to even 15%, but I’ve tried to learn some “Medical Acholi” for my clerkships. But, I sometimes ask closed ended questions when I have no immediate interpreter but it still doesn’t seem to help😖.

Here is how it goes.

Me; Ngok tye? ( are you still vomiting?)

Patient; hdndvsusj kdksyvf jdmxvsgw jnfkkie hsksishnsjs hdjdb ngok jdysubdhd jfirir xaeaca jvmgkfi arwei n xsrgm.hjnnf hncd, josidvdh! (27273 msgsukdn 6hatahd kfodje bafau -$+#(“: °`÷|× °€℅\]9|÷ ksh

ME; Mego, Ngok tye? Ngok pe? ( Woman/maama, is vomiting present or not?)

PATIENT; Ngok pe ( no vomiting)

ME;😧😧
